Bee Cool

One of the things we have hobbied-around a bit with is Geocaching. We currently maintain 3 right here in Davis. Today was first time the owner log notifications included rather personal notes from the cacher... as if the cache itself was a being to whom they were writing:

That is very sweet... and different.

I remember this night. I was laying there for a long time while testing the scripts for the dock levitation on Baron's new Templum build (which, btw, is bloody gorgeous, even if I'm a little biased ... lol)

This is a really cool pic, Hulaboom. Really ethereal. (and I was actually quite comfy down there)

Orbs, Ornaments... what more is there to the holidays?

Not only did I want to build an orb, a sno-globe thing, I wanted to take advantage of the odd landscape provided by the Lindens. This particular parcel has the feature of providing the highest point on Blitzen. I could see the central square down below... so it did not take me too long to develop the idea of taking advantage of that feature and added a few meters height and a tower to look out from. I repeated the floor build in the basecamp below. The ornaments are a gift from someone who wishes to remain annonymous. It was my idea to make them really huge... and that makes it all just perfect. Don't you agree?

So, it's like me and the fly... on the whole sim it's only just me and the fly. And I rezzed right here where he is - outside Tooter Claxton's place where the cart is talking incessantly in local chat. So I says to him..."Nice Avi"
And the fly replies: "yeah thanks I got it here. Too bad there are not more insects, there are not too many insects in SL.
So I says: "well you know there are so many more of them IRL, the insect kingdom, that is. There are more bugs and kinds of bugs than any other creatures on the planet."

To which he replies, "you're right, maybe there is some justice in that."

Reckless Contextment

Sometimes I will look at the stats from my Flickr photostream because it is interesting to see how visitors linked to the pics. Typically folks are looking at the most recent pics, and most of the referer links are from Flickr - friends looking at new stuff. This one of mine got a hit yesterday from yahoo image search for the word: Stereotype.

Barefoot Kentuckians?

This guys' profile says it all:
"I WILL PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE!"that pretty much says it all.
I'm a Luchador, I play in a touring band. I'm from Kentucky and I wear shoes and have a college engineering degree. Anything else? ask our manager.
I asked him about shoes... he said it was a steroetype of his people. hmmm... not in my book!

confused by the steroetype.
He looks like an Italian "Chef Boyardee" type trying to pass him self off as a mexican stereotype by getting down with the sweet, sweet tequilla . . .
And a sombrero . . .

I've never thought about many of the unintended consequences of our online drool until this week. Do you suppose we are teaching someone, somewhere about our language & culture? I think we both have it right in our photostreams. I can see the glossary now...

ste·reo·type (noun) 1: something conforming to a fixed or general pattern ; especially : a standardized mental picture that is held in common by members of a group and that represents an oversimplified opinion, prejudiced attitude, or uncritical judgment

It didn't take me long to remember the wonderful costume by a fellow Boomtowner for Ramirez. So much yummy detailing... Hula is in front of Nessie's vardo named "Melanie" on Romani Respite, Athetis. The Respite was nestled right above the Linden RR, at the end of the Great Wall. This was our gyspy camp after I dragged us out of Dreamworld West and onto Selby and other Mainland living.

Well, I have this problem...

... I feel really guilty since I had to beat up this old guy to get this hat.

April trip to tiger armor_005

Awsome, I love this pic... I was out exploring and just ran into these two. The pic doesn't it show it well, but they were wee folk besides. Really short avitars... Little fierce people out shopping for weapons.

One of my favorites, I had this pic up in my office. I took it down out of resepct after one of my friends commented about the picture with the sultry look. It amazes me how poses and animations transmit information about the "selves" of avitars. Clearly its what we are doing with that information that is making the effect. What ever its genesis, the phenomenon is striking.

Komuso sizes-up the competition...

This pic was taken the openening of (is it..?) Artropolis. This is Filthy Fluno and Komuso sharing the stage in a break in Komuso's set. This is also the night I introduced myself to Crap Mariner... who knew?

Things about my Second Life: Change

I know, I know... its been over a year. I'll get back to all of that later.

So... one of the things that IS ( as opposed to somethin' I like or dislike) about my Second Life is constant change. That's something that the meat-spacer in me has to get used to. At first it is somewhat unsettling, as it was the first time I abandoned my carefully crafted nirvana on Dreamworld West. Now for me wholesale change in SL becomes something to accept, even embrace. New stuff, new folks, new possibilities and never going "back." Reminds me of the "The Wheel."

And what it all boils down to is that in the hyper-real place we (avitars) call "home" the fact that impermanence is always a possibility therein lies a truth constant to our "real world"as well. We have just convinced ourselves that all this RL "stuff" is constant. It ain't. Its just denser... maybe so are we.

The events of the past 24 hours are a prime example SL in flux. I've waited a long time to blog again for a great number of reasons. But this example of the Truth of Transience is so perrrrfect, so compelling that I will break through my excuses and inertial dampners and bring forth blog and flickr pics. Last night I wanted to work on my new treeouse build. But building requires such focus and an inadvetant stress on the mousing side of my upper bod that in the face of a couple of days of a locked shoulder, I thought it best to not get started on any in-world intensity. I typically miss the physical queues that I should stop and take a break, and its not until I have a genuine problem on my hands do I notice that my hands and feet are cold, and my right arm resembles a knotty, twisted tree root. I opted for popping in to visit the build and take a few pics. In the process I see that TheDiva Rockin' is making a shout out to come to Parkade for the bootieSL party... a fine choice for kicking back some low-stress and wholly entertaining in-world time.

I'd been to Parkade for this event a couple of time before. It is there that I learned about mashups: songs where two (and many times many more) music tracks are laid one atop another and a "mix" is applied. I love this art form! Its really fun when I know alll of the songs, but the songs that are all new to me are cool too. Last night DJ Amanda Shinji, 1/2 of the founding Ma's @ http://www.bootiesl.com/ was servin' up some great mash. At the end of an awesome set, she announces that she is giving up the Parkade sim, but that the party and the gigs would be moving to a newer, sexier location on a faster, more accomodating class 5 sim. Change happens...

This morning, I decide to go an cruise bootiesl.com to see if I can grab some of the tracks I heard last night. After crusing the songs there and on some linked mashup sites, I wondered if I could find a handy mash-up stream to play whiel I attend to pressing RL matters. I remembered that Amanda switched over to the booitesl stream last night at the end of her set. I decide to go backin-world right where I left to catch a stream there, or get a clue about where to find a streaming url.

In I pop, back to my last location... and poof! This is Parkade today. I take it Amanda got really busy last light. And there it is: the reality of transcience, in my face and on my screen. if I am lucky, I will visit the new club, dip my lobes into the pool of audio porridge once again. But the experience is now but a memory just like all the other memories stacking up to make the fabric that's "my life." Jes' like 'dat. And its all good. Well it better be: it's my choice to do what I will with that which is inevitable.
